FiveRuns

FiveRuns gets $6.2M, names new CEO – Austin Business Journal:
I met a few of these guys during SXSW last year. That space is very compelling. Ruby on Rails is a framework that lets you develop software easily, but production support and monitoring? Not so much. A huge pain point here.

Race to failure

Microsoft beats Google to Facebook stake
Taking some money off the table, smart. As for the contenders — way to go dummies, you just for validating the $15b some bozo pulled out of thin air.

Cap Metro’s Buses arrive in Austin

First commuter rail cars arrive
OK, kind of a non-event. But still, good P.R. for CapMetro. Here I am imagining the possibilities of a commute downtown (or UT) with just a train and a bike.

Complete with 3D tour! It’s just like CRIBS, only much worse.

Las Manitas wraps up negotiations with Marriott – Austin Business Journal:

AMLI to build at East Avenue – Austin Business Journal

AMLI to build at East Avenue – Austin Business Journal
Here’s another real estate gold mine — East Avenue, right next door to UT campus (The dirt was worth $80M in 2006). These folks don’t waste any time planning the development…ironic, since Concordia still occupies the land.

Hooray for big boxes

City to pay $6.9M for Home Depot site – Austin Business Journal
Always nice to see a big box get a second lease on life. In other news, the original Municipal Court (7th Street between Red River and I-35) is sitting on a GOLDMINE. They’ll have no problems getting top dollar on that land. Surprising, then, that the City even entertained a bond offering when a sale/leaseback could have raised the funds they needed to move (and then some).

If you’ve ever wondered what the differences are between a latte and a cappuchino, this one image will explain it all. The beauty of pictures.

Make up your mind, Palm

Palm admits new OS 18 months away | The Register

Palm is SCREWED. They are stuck in a time warp, trying to develop backwards compatibility…for what? Solitaire and 5-year-old wine guides? The best thing they could do for their developer base is to put a bullet in PalmOS.
