Bombings
January 2nd, 2007
Our Texas Evening MBA Program got an unexpected jolt on New Years. Minutes after midnight on January 1, 2007, a half-dozen bombs hit Bangkok, Thailand, killing 3 and wounding 38. It so happens that our program sponsors an International Trip program that is visiting Thailand right now. Thankfully, the initial word seems to be that no one from our program was hurt in the blasts.
I can’t help but try to put myself in the shoes of my companions in Bangkok right now. To spend all that money and take time off to visit a foreign country, on the premise of promoting local business and culture. Then in one fell swoop, the status of said trip is now up in the air, and suddenly you find yourself at the bottom of Maslow’s pyramind, worrying about things that are out of your control, trying to keep family and friends from panicking.
I can only hope that if everyone is truly fine, healthy, and up for it, that they continue with the trip as scheduled. This is the world we live in, warts and all, and those guys in Bangkok are better than me for getting out to explore it.
