Post, Upload and Paste Plugin for Wordpress 2
May 13th, 2006
Due to semi-popular demand from my previous Wordpress plugin, Post, Upload, and Paste Plugin for Wordpress 1.5, I’d decided to update the plugin to work in Wordpress 2.0.x. (The original plugin didn’t exact work out of the box, but the changes were fairly easy.)
The link: Post, Upload, and Paste Plugin for Wordpress 2.0.x
Install instructions (these have changed in the new version):
- First you must download, install, and activate the Old-Style Upload Plugin. This plugin restores the upload setting screens from Wordpress 1.5.
- Check your upload settings to make sure you have the ability to upload.
- Download my plugin and unzip in the
/wp-content/pluginsdirectory. - Change permissions on the 2 files that were extracted,
post-upload-and-paste.phpandupload_popup.php(744 is fine) - Move
upload_popup.phpto the/wp-admindirectory. - Activate your plugin!
If you’re using this plugin, then you probably understand that it only works in non-Rich Text mode, and doesn’t work at all in Safari.
Changes since the last release:
- Removed the pup folder
- Updated permission settings given in instructions
- Added instructions to install Old-Style Upload Plugin
Known issues and things to improve:
- Blogs in subfolders still might be a bit buggy…I host mine on the root folder, sorry.
- Links to original pics from thumbnails. (Wordpress never supported this in the old screens, but seems reasonable to employ)
As always, please leave comments below for questions and problems related to this plugin.

hi, im using wordpress version 2.03, why everytime i click upload button it always says:
You are not allowed to upload files
thanks

May want to double-check those upload settings. After you install the Old-Style Upload Plugin on step 2, go to Options –> Upload and see if your settings are pointing to valid folders. Then, try testing those out on the Upload tab. If you can upload on that screen, you’ll be able to upload on my plugin.

I am experiencing the same as Jeffrey. I was wondering if it was because I was using firefox, but I had the same issue with Internet Explorer. Is there an error in the javascript or is it not compatible with 2.0.3?
7. ruben | June 28th, 2006 at 4:23 pm
The plugin uses whatever naming convention WP assigns the photo, so a rename isn’t doable, not without some additional development. Frankly I don’t think renaming a photo is all that essential, so don’t look for it soon…
As for the FF (and IE?) problems, tough to say. I’ve tested 2.0.1 successfully on recent versions of Firefox, both Mac and Windows. Hopefully WP developers haven’t done something crazy to the form names or something. I’ll have to take a look at it once things at school and work clear up.

I’ve set up your plugin on my WordPress which was just downloaded yesterday.
I used WP 1.5 before with your plugin(older version) without any problem. so nice~
After installation, if I click ‘Upload’, it complains that it could not find the directory. The directory is old link!
For instance, it was ‘/home2/myname/public_html/wp-content/file’.
Option->Miscellaneous->Upload directory is ‘wp-content/uploads’ and my home directory is start with ‘/home’ not ‘/home2′.
All other stuff work okay. What’s wrong?

hi ruben…your plugin is just what i am looking for…if i can get it to work! no doubt it is something simple! i am using wp2 and IE. i have tried both versions of your plugin, and both times i encounter problems, installing and deleting over and over to try and get it right! this time i get the same error message as jeffrey ‘not allowed to upload’ the permissions are set to 744 on both files and on is in the files are in the correct place.i have defalt settings for uploads in ‘options’ (wp-content/uploads/).
i know i can upload via the ’standard plugin’ which was already part of WP2 when i installed it. but i would rather use your plugin…if i can get it to work!
cheers for any advice!

I got it working, but one thing I would like to change…
The picture shows at the bottom of the post, I would like it to be at the top, at the beggining of the post.
Is this possible?
Thanks for your hard work!

Hey H.O.,
The behavior may depend on what browser you use. The image should be inserted at the cursor position if you use Firefox. That has been the case in FF thru 1.5. I have never tested this behavior on IE, so I can’t vouch for its behavior. It’s possible that the insertion there is at the end.
If you did anything special in the setup, maybe you can also post the extra steps you used to make it work? That might help trigger some ideas for folks here to try.
Thanks for the kind words.

After the initial setup it seemed to work without a problem now I recieve errors when trying to “add image to post”. The file is uploaded to the server without a problem.
I am using WP 2.0.4
Javascript errors:
In Firefox 1.5.0.7:
uncaught exception: [Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x80004005 (NS_ERROR_FAILURE) [nsIDOMNSHTMLTextAreaElement.selectionStart]” nsresult: “0×80004005 (NS_ERROR_FAILURE)” location: “JS frame :: http://writersblockmedia.net/wp-admin/upload_popup.php :: edInsertContentExternal :: line 53″ data: no]
In IE
Line: 46
Error: Can’t move focus to the control because it is invisible, not enabled, or of a type that does not accept the focus.

Thanks for a cool plugin.
I have a problem with thumbnails.
It seems to be that WP rewrites thumbnails as filename.thumbnail.ext.
Your plugin callse thumb-filename.ext.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks again!

difficult to find plugin like this, increase the power of wordpress theme.
26. Maddalena | April 3rd, 2007 at 4:45 pm
The plugin should now work in Safari, with WordPress 2.0.6 and above (2.0.6 brought quicktags to Safari).
At least, I tested it in WP 2.1.3 and I don’t see any problem.
Thanks a lot for your work!
